We are all thinking it. It’s hard not to. And with the rumblings of another nation-wide shutdown, we are faced with the real possibility that CrossFit boxes may be on the list of businesses to close the front door due to COVID. Since the COVID outbreak, gyms and fitness centers have been the topic of debate on whether they should be included in the shutdown, considering the variety of health and mental well-being benefits of physical exercise. Several big-name gyms have taken their plea to the court systems, while others relied on their local community for financial support to stay afloat. With all of that being said, we have to ask the question. Will CrossFit shut down again for COVID? Maybe not yet.
The Community Gyms Coalition is leading the charge to help gyms and CrossFit boxes stay open during another shutdown, as well as fighting for gyms that have already shutdown or closed their doors permanently. Here are some of the facts:
- 6,000 gyms have already closed down.
- Gym closure rate is 5x higher than restaurants.
- 1 in 4 gyms faces bankruptcy.
These numbers could potentially sky rocket in the wake of another shutdown. But fitness leaders across the country, such as, CrossFit, OrangeTheory, Zumba, AnytimeFitness, and others have pulled together in an initiate to keep gyms alive.
The leaders of the Community Gyms Coalition are asking for our help to plead our case to keep gyms open in the wake of another shutdown. Your voice can be heard by clicking the link below and following the prompted directions.
Of course, everyone’s safety is at the forefront of our mind. But data confirms clearly that gyms and health centers can not only operate safely in the midst of COVID. And the health benefits of active exercise can improve one’s immune system and help fight off the virus if contracted.
